Louisville Tractor began evolving in the 1970’s when Jay M. Bucy left his position as a Dealer Development Representative for Ford Motor Company’s Tractor Division, and took over a small struggling dealership named Louisville Ford Tractor, located in the Bluegrass Industrial Park near Louisville, Kentucky.  There have been numerous changes during the past almost fifty years, both with the physical dealership and with the tremendous growth and product transitions due to a constantly changing market demand.  Jay’s prior experience with Ford’s Tractor Division and his teaching experience in Agriculture Education have proven to be invaluable.

In the beginning, Jay and seven employees sold, serviced and provided parts for Ford tractors, loaders, wheel loaders and backhoes. They also carried tub grinders for refuse.  In the early 1980’s, Louisville Tractor become aware of the growing need for outdoor turf products and added the line of Excel Hustler Turf Equipment, which included the original zero turn mower. The demand for outdoor turf products in Louisville and throughout the Bluegrass State continued to increase during the 1980‘s. It was time to expand the company!

Louisville Tractor became a John Deere dealer, adding its lines of lawn and garden equipment, sub compact tractors, compact tractors, utility tractors, Gator utility vehicles, skid steer loaders, compact excavators, zero turn mowers, walk behind mowers, and ztrak mowers.  In the late 1980’s, we also became a Scag dealer and distributor.

The building grew from 9,000 to more then 22,000 square feet, and there were now more than fifty employees.

In 1995, New Holland purchased Ford Tractor Division, and we added their Boomer, Workmaster, utility tractors and compact tractors to the inventory.  Three years later, Scag introduced what became the flagship of their brand, the Turf Tiger.  Louisville Tractor knew this was a hit when we sold over 100 in the first year.  In addition to the Turf Tiger, we also carry Scag’s Cheetah, Tiger Cat, Patriot, Liberty Z, Freedom Z, zero turn mowers and the Hydro Walk Behind.

Having handheld outdoor turf products and accessories available has also contributed to Louisville Tractor’s success.  These include Echo, Shindaiwa, and  Stihl  brands of string trimmers, backpack blowers, edgers, and hedge trimmers.  The latest innovation is the battery powered electric string trimmers, hedge trimmers and blowers.  In addition, Stihl provides chainsaws and chainsaw accessories.  Redmax Handheld Power Equipment also produces backpack blowers and string trimmers.

Some assorted complementary lines carried by Louisville Tractor are Billy Goat Debris Removal Equipment, Jonsered Snow Blowers and SnowEx Snow Removal Equipment, such as tailgate salt spreaders, box salt spreaders, snow brooms and snow plows.

The line of Ferris Mowing Equipment, added in 2013, introduced our customers to suspension in commercial mowers, commercial walk behinds and residential zero turn mowers.

To address the need for continued product growth with landscape professionals, Louisville Tractor added products from Bandit Industries in 2016.  The stump grinders include wheeled stump grinders, tracked stump grinders and walk behind chippers.  There are whole tree chippers, drum chippers, disc chippers and tracked chippers.

A fully stocked Parts Department is maintained with the main categories being  Bearings, Blades, Belts, Pulleys, Clutches and Tires.

Internet Parts Department - Shipping and Receiving.

The first Louisville Tractor website was introduced in 2001, and it consisted of equipment listings for sale.  In 2010 the website was redesigned to offer customers an easier and more efficient shopping experience.  Three years later saw another renovation of the website to allow the purchase of parts online.  The first order was from Hawaii for a set of Scag mower blades.  Since that time, Louisville Tractor has shipped parts to every state in the USA.  In the beginning, only one person was needed to fill online parts orders, and now there is a full internet Parts Department.

In 2016 there was a major undertaking to completely renovate the Louisville Tractor website.  There is now a fully responsive website that allows customers to shop conveniently from all their electronic devices.  It includes more product offerings and easier methods for finding parts.  They can be found by either category or brand.  We can now offer discounted, high quality replacement parts for most manufacturers.

January 2019 marks another land mark change as Jay Bucy retired by selling the business to one of the fastest growing dealerships in the region, Andersons' Sales & Service, Inc.

We are  proud of our past accomplishments and eagerly look forward to new challenges and continued growth through our online sales department and expanded product offerings
